Learn Math with SageMath

funded by the Wright College Open Educational Resource Expansion grant from the Illinois State Library

This project introduces techniques of scientific and technical writing by way of independent study and problem based learning.

Writing in the Sciences offers students an opportunity to refine their skills in presenting technical and scientific issues to various audiences. Project will include the development of a professional instructional handbook on SageMath aimed to publication as an Open Educational Resource.

This project may be relevant to students considering careers or advanced study in the engineering, computational, or applied sciences as well as in teaching.

Students testimonials

“Contributing to the discrete math and Sage book has been an amazing journey of growth and discovery for me. Despite joining the project late and having a limited background in discrete mathematics and Sage, working closely with a team of brilliant people made the learning experience inspiring and truly rewarding on every level. Along the way, I gained substantial hands-on exposure to Sage, and thanks to the professor's invaluable guidance and all the insightful feedback throughout the project, I developed a solid foundation and understanding of the mechanics of scientific writing and publishing.”

Allaoua Boughrira

“I am grateful for the opportunity to work with a talented team of people and create a valuable resource for mathematics and computer science education. The writing and peer review process developed my ability to communicate technical concepts and sharpened my understanding. Using SageMath and PreTeXt deepened my appreciation for the open-education movement and open-source software.”

— Sam Lubliner

“Turning discrete math into something clear and approachable has been my way of showing that even the toughest topics can be made easier to learn and share.”
