Ecoprinting
is a technique that transfers the plant color and shape onto fabric to make an impression of the plant. Prints of leaves and flowers on fabric are obtained by using the natural dyes and tannins present in leaves and combining them with mordants, moisture, heat and pressure.
This new technique is a contemporary application of traditional natural dyeing processes as well as traditional ways to represent botanical images (cyanotype, botanical illustration, direct print).
